Hidden Allergens

Do you get frequent headaches? you may have allergies

I used to get these horrible headaches on a weekly basis, I didn't know why I just knew that my head pounded when I moved. It was miserable. I tried everything over the counter medicine could offer me and the only thing that gave me a little bit of relief was cold and sinus medicines and time.

This is what gave me a clue that my headache was sinus related. It was years before I decided to check myself for allergies. My misconception of allergies was that it started with watery eyes and a nose that didn't stop running and went from there to worse if you had asthma or had to have an epi pen. I never considered a common headache to be allergy related.

What are these hidden allergens that tried to ruin my life? It turns out after a visit to the allergy doctor who tested me with little scratch marks on my forearms, that I am very allergic to dust mites. It was the only thing I was really allergic to. These little tiny bugs live in our house dust and can not be seen without a microscope.

If you are having frequent headaches or even sudden neck or back pain, these could be allergy related. There are a couple of things you can do to try to illuminate what the causes are:

  • Start paying close attention to everything you eat.  If you are ambitious start a food diary.  The main thing to consider is the ingredients of the industry prepared foods you buy.  Any ingredients list that is long usually has things in it your body won't like.  Buy foods with simple short ingredients lists.
  • Every time your pain starts, make a detailed list of everything you did the last 24 hours.  Include where you went as well as what you ate.  You may see a pattern, for instance it may be that every time you get your headache you have visited a friends home who has roof damage in the front porch and mildew is present.  Or every time you clean you wake up with a horrible headache the next day.

The solution isn't always easy but keep at it and you may find the pattern you are looking for in time. If you are plagued with headaches like I was, I hope my experience and advice helps you find a solution quickly. I am not a doctor and my advice is not meant to replaced a doctors' advice or diagnosis. Good luck and good health to you all!
